No sound coming through my hearing aids (or other Bluetooth devices)
1️⃣ Basic Checks
These simple checks solve most issues.
Please check for hearing aids (and other Bluetooth devices) :
- that they are indeed Bluetooth devices
- that they are turned on and charged
- that you are wearing them correctly
- that your phone's Bluetooth is enabled and that you are not in airplane mode
- that you are close enough to your phone (less than 10 feet / 3 meters)
Please check for wired headphones or earbuds :
- The jack is fully plugged into your phone
- The cable is not damaged
- Your phone's port is clean (no dust)
🔍 How to check that Bluetooth is enabled?
On iPhone:
- Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen (or swipe up from the bottom on iPhone models with a Home button) to open Control Center
- The Bluetooth icon should be blue. If it's gray, tap it to enable it

On Android (note: terms may vary slightly depending on your smartphone manufacturer):
- Swipe down twice from the top of the screen OR go to Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth and turn on the toggle
- The Bluetooth icon should be colored. If it's gray, tap it to enable it
2️⃣ Check if your devices are properly paired with your smartphone
On iPhone
- Open the "Settings" app
- Go to the "Bluetooth" menu
- Check that your equipment appears in the "MY DEVICES" section
- If you don't see your equipment and you wear hearing aids, try going to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices. If your hearing aids are MFi (Made for iPhone), you will find them in this menu
- Tap your equipment to activate the connection if it's not already done
On Android
- Open the "Settings" app
- Go to the "Connected devices" or "Connections" menu depending on the model
- Then tap the "Bluetooth" menu
- Check that your equipment appears in the list
- If you don't see your equipment and you wear hearing aids, try going to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancement (or equivalent label depending on the smartphone model). If your hearing aids are ASHA compatible, you will find them here;
- Tap your equipment to activate the connection if it's not already done
If your devices appear but the connection doesn't work, go to section 4 of this article.
3️⃣ My devices don't appear in the Bluetooth device list
On iPhone
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices
- Turn on your hearing aids and enable "Pairing" mode (open the charging case near the smartphone and/or press and hold a button depending on the model). Consult your device manual or contact your audiologist if you're unsure about the procedure.
- Find your equipment in the list of available devices
- Follow the on-screen instructions
If you want to connect equipment other than Made for iPhone hearing aids, the procedure is the same but you need to go to Settings > Bluetooth.
On Android
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancement
- Turn on your hearing aids and enable "Pairing" mode (open the charging case near the smartphone and/or press and hold a button depending on the model). Consult your device manual or contact your audiologist if you're unsure about the procedure.
- Find your equipment in the list of available devices
- Follow the on-screen instructions
If you want to connect equipment other than ASHA hearing aids, the procedure is the same but you need to go to Settings > Bluetooth.
4️⃣ My devices appear but the connection doesn't work
Your equipment is connected to multiple devices
Common issue: If you have connected your hearing aids or Bluetooth headphones to multiple devices (tablet, computer, another phone), one of them may be "holding" the connection.
Solution:
- Turn off Bluetooth on your other devices (tablet, computer, etc.)
- Go back to the list of audio devices
- Select your equipment to establish the connection
Restart your equipment
Sometimes, a simple restart of your equipment restores the connection.
- Turn off your hearing aids (or other Bluetooth equipment) and place them in their case
- Turn off your smartphone
- Wait 10 seconds
- Turn your smartphone back on
- Turn your hearing aids (or other Bluetooth equipment) back on and put them on
- Check the audio output list again
"Forget" then reconnect the device
Warning, this action erases the existing connection and forces a new pairing. Only do this if you know the pairing procedure for your hearing aids (or your Bluetooth equipment):
- Go to the "Bluetooth" menu
- Tap "Forget" or "Unpair" on the equipment you want to disconnect (you may need to tap the "info" icon — small i in a circle — to access the "Forget" option)
- Then follow the instructions from the previous section "My devices don't appear in the Bluetooth device list"
